Every age has its up and downs, but a surprising parent survey reveals that children are the most enjoyable at age 5 and the most difficult between the ages of 10 and 12.

The survey, conducted in the UK by Soreen, asked 2,000 parents at which ages their children were the most and least fun to be around, with 40 percent of participants stating 5 was the best. Parents ranked 5 the highest since children at this age can "communicate properly," develop "a good sense of humor," and "can now properly enjoy playing sports and activities." Although the survey didn't report why ages 10 through 12 are the most difficult, we can guess much of it has to do with preteen angst and hormones.

Lastly, participants were also asked to rate the percentage of hard work versus fun with kids, and the majority reported an even 50/50 split.
